FAQs

01

What is LA Collab?

A non-profit organization and collective impact group of entertainment industry leaders and influencers that develops transformational collaboration between the creative community, studios, buyers and other organizations. We exist to accelerate Latino access, visibility and authentic representation in media, and drive exponential growth for the entertainment industry.
02

Why LA Collab? How are you different from other Latino advocacy and non profit groups in this space?

LA Collab was founded by established Latino executives in media who wish to utilize their influence, expertise, and collective impact to support other organizations working towards diversity & inclusion and bring allies together (Latinos and others) from different areas of the Hollywood ecosystem. We don’t seek to compete with existing efforts, we seek to support, unite and build fruitful partnerships that foster collaboration.
03

What exactly will LA Collab do?

LA Collab will collaborate with studios, producers, executives, showrunners, and other allied organizations, to help connect vetted Latino resources, top and emerging creators and talent, with the Hollywood ecosystem at large. We will connect human and financial capital, and support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, to ensure Latinos are represented and employed in front-of and behind the camera, while Hollywood meets its business objectives.
04

Who is involved? What other industry leaders are supporting this? And how?

This initiative was co-founded by Beatriz Acevedo (mitu, Acevedo Foundation), Ivette Rodriguez (AEM), and Leo Gomez (Cultural Whisperer). Seed funding partners include the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti, the Annenberg Foundation, Endeavor Content, and Warner Media. Our Advising Committee includes industry leaders from Amazon Studios, Betty Mae Casting, CAA, Endeavor Content, Franklin Entertainment, Producer Marlis Pujol, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, and Warner Media.  They support in defining goals, sub committees and ways to continuously improve the initiative - ensuring we reach our overarching mission. In addition, they are project ambassadors through public statements, social media amplification, events participation, overall project endorsement.
05

What does signing on as an official “Supporter” require? Is this a pay to play initiative?

Involvement with LA Collab is free of cost. We ask that you pledge to support our mission by leveraging your access and influence in the industry to help secure deal commitments, package projects, connect talent in our community with industry decision makers and find synergy between your diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and LA Collab.
06

Inclusion, diversity, equity and access is a priority for our company and we are already running programs inside our own company towards this goal.  How do we benefit from collaborating with LA Collab?

Through our partnerships, we spark collaboration between the Latino creative community and its allies, including foundations, non-profits, production and media companies to develop new projects and develop solutions together. Our shared goal is to help accelerate and maximize the outcomes of your existing diversity & inclusion initiatives by connecting you to key stakeholders and finding synergy amongst other efforts.
07

Is there a specific goal and how will you measure the success of LA Collab?

Our goal is to double Latino access, representation and job creation, in front of and behind the cameras, by 2030. Starting Jan 2020, LA Collab will be partnering with LDC to launch a new quarterly report focused on measuring progress of Latino representation on TV (including broadcast, cable and OTT), by tracking Latino leads and co-leads, directors, show runners and writers. This report will be released during our launch and at Sundance, using Fall 2019 as a baseline. LDC will also track the 100 highest grossing films of the year and will report that data annually starting in Q1 2020.
08

Do I need to report or disclose any of my data publicly?

No. Any data or reporting you want us to highlight including success stories from your initiatives, will be completely voluntary.
